Kentucky Watercolor Society 2013 Exhibition

My painting was accepted into the 2013 Kentucky Watercolor Society Juried Exhibition. My goal for 2013 was to have 3 paintings  in national juried shows- the same number  in 2012.   And this year, I have had 3 painting accepted into 3 watercolor shows.  Goal met.. Watercolor Society of North Carolina 68th Annual Exhibition- Blowing Rock, NC

My goal for 2013 was to get 3 paintings accepted into national watercolor society shows.  Juried shows. The first part of my goal was met with the news that my painting of Duke Chapel was accepted by juror Mary Ann Beckwith. Watercolor demonstration- Cusco church, Peru

I began this painting a month ago.  Finally I finished it last night. My inspiration for the piece was the artwork of Dan Burt.  I picked up a copy of his book on Amazon and have looked through it (you don’t read art books, do you?) many times, especially enjoying the 11 tutorials and the step-by-step photographs of the paintings… (more…)

John Salminen watercolor workshop- finished painting

Last month I attended the John Salminen watercolor workshop at the Arts of the Albemarle in historic Elizabeth City, NC.  It was a great workshop led by the renowned watercolor painter.  I, and the other participants in the workshop, spent the entire week working on one painting. Watercolor exhibitions- 2012

I have been painting watercolors for less than a year. Yes, I have a painting degree from University of Michigan, so I do have experience in watercolor (2 classes- one taught very badly).  But I also have experience in oils, acrylic, printmaking, sculpture, etc.  And illustration.  And photography.  Basically, I had no idea what I wanted to do after college.… (more…)
